Germany steps up speed enforcement in April 2026: Increased radar checks from 13 to 19 April

Germany will carry out another nationwide speed enforcement campaign in April 2026. According to ADAC, this year’s spring Speedweek will take place from Monday, 13 April, to Sunday, 19 April 2026, with Wednesday, 15 April, serving as the main action day in several federal states.

During this period, police will increase radar checks and speed monitoring on motorways, federal roads and urban streets. Enforcement typically focuses on areas with elevated safety risks, such as roads near schools, kindergartens, hospitals, nursing homes and construction zones. The main goal is to improve road safety, as speeding remains one of the common causes of serious traffic accidents.

According to the latest ADAC overview, many federal states are taking part in the April campaign, including Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. Saarland is not participating in the April campaign.

Drivers in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) should pay particular attention: the state will conduct increased speed checks throughout the full week from 13 to 19 April, without a separate peak enforcement day. In practice, this means motorists should expect a higher density of controls during the entire week.

Most participating states have not published full lists of speed camera locations in advance. ADAC notes that Bavaria may again release selected checkpoints and an interactive map, as in previous years, although final details were not yet fully available at the time of publication.

Drivers caught speeding during the campaign are not subject to special penalties beyond the normal rules. However, standard German traffic penalties still apply and may include fines, points in Flensburg, and in more serious cases, driving bans.

For motorists, the safest approach is simple: follow posted speed limits at all times, especially near schools, urban roads and construction areas.
